Of all the letters, X is probably the most fraught, the most enigmatic, the most Xtreme!
At the center of our name, you’ll find this fascinating letter. It’s versatile, taking on many different faces and meanings. X means the unknown. It’s where the treasure is buried. It’s a cancellation. It’s the number ten. It’s the wild card.
Since our name quite literally revolves around it, we put down our brand new iPad amplifier to write a special kubxlab tribute to the mysterious character:
1. Putting the X in eXtreme!
X has assumed the duties of the entire word “extreme” in a number of ways. The X Games is a prime example, as the letter has been branded a synonym for the whole extreme sports culture of wild people partying and doing things in the air that no sane person with regard for personal safety would ever attempt. We’re glad somebody’s out there doing it and we’re equally glad that somebody is NOT us. But, we can feel like we’re part of the action through our iPad amplifier.
2. The X Factor, The Wild Card!
X is also the wild card, the rogue, the one who doesn’t fit the mold or play by the rules. Usually, the X factor is a cut above. Take, for instance, the eponymous music competition show. On “The X Factor,” the winner is the one who stands out, different by being better. Or, consider The X-Men. Though the title is gender-biased, it refers to men and women who have amazing abilities, putting them one evolutionary step ahead of the rest of us.
3. X, The Great Unknown
X-Rays are so-named because their discoverer, Wilhelm Röntgen, had absolutely no idea what they were. Generation X gets its title for being a generation of unknown destinations, with no historic event to pin to its meaning. X is amorphous, difficult to pin down, coming from who knows where and going to the same place.
It’s suffice to say X has some interesting affiliations in culture. We love the letter, clearly, and perhaps it’s because it’s so unique and culturally loaded.
X is a vessel for the unknown—to be filled with things we don’t understand. Therefore, X is the language of the future—that unknown space we can’t predict, but can feel coming. And kubxlab products, like our iPad case amplifier, are the future, if nothing else.
Embrace the future; don’t X it out!
