If you have ever wondered why the Apple logo on your laptop seems upside down when you open it; then check out this great article on TUAW.COM called the ‘Story of Apple’s Upside Down Logo’ by Michael Grothaus.
Grothaus talks about why the Apple logo faces onlookers and not the user (spoiler alert: apparently us Apple lovers get confused easily if the logo faces toward us and try to open the hinges)
Here’s a great quote from Joe Moreno, a former Apple Employee, on why Steve Jobs wanted the Apple to face the user:
“Steve Jobs always focuses on providing the best possible user experience and believed that it was more important to satisfy the user than the onlooker.”
Ultimately he changed his mind, but that type of thinking is why we have such amazing Apple products like the nano, that offer nearly unlimited opportunities for accessory creators (think iPod nano watches).
Pretty interesting stuff, just thought we’d share.
